Rapid Application Development (RAD)
INFORMATION
Rapid Application Development (RAD) is a form of agile software
development methodology that prioritises rapid prototype releases and
iterations. Unlike the Waterfall method, RAD emphasises the use of
software and user feedback over strict planning and requirements
recording.
Overview
The RAD agile framework
focuses primarily on rapid prototyping of software products, frequently
iterating based on feedback, and continuously releasing updated
versions of those products to the market.
RAD Principles.
The following principles relate to the RAD approach:
Fast development
Iterative delivery
Project broken into smaller segments
Users closely involved.
Strengths:
Early visibility
Greatly reduces manual coding
Increases user involvement
Possible fewer errors
Possible reduced cost
Shorter development cycles.
Weaknesses:
Application is less efficient
Application is not as precise
Lack of control
Possibly allows ad-hoic issues to creap in
Reduced features.
